FIREWORKS!!!

So last Monday our students only had a half day of class and not knowing Chinese (yet) we really were having a hard time figuring out why.

We found out eventually, and it turns out that our school moved up in the world of Chinese universities. Due to some sort of accreditation, we are now a better school. Which means all sorts of good things for our campus and students but for us it meant FIREWORKS!!!!

Monday night, our school put on the best fireworks show I have ever seen. (Except maybe that one time with Matt D. but that is another story). Just think of the best fireworks show you have ever seen ever and then multiply it by 5 and that is how good this show was. The show was supposed to start around 8 but then we ran into some students who said more like 9.

The school had the whole campus cut in half and the fireworks were going to be shot off from the soccer field in the middle. But we were stuck on the wrong side: No View. Then my incredibly smart wife had the best idea ever. We should go watch the show from the 8th floor of the teaching building.

We high-tailed it across campus and were on the way up the stairs (the elevators shut down after 6:30) we got to the 4th floor and the show started (not quite 9 yet, but already past 8: that's China for ya) but we had to get higher. Boy, did it pay off! We had probably the best view on campus.

We ran into our student friend Remi on the way and he watched with us. The show was a little over 1 hour and constant action: no breaks or silliness here. WOW is all we can say: if you are ever in China and have the oppertunity to go see fireworks, GO. You won't regret it.
