We've been asked to sum up our first year in China countless times... but how about summing up our summer back in Minnesota, back "home" for the last 7 weeks?
Meeting with people here, time with the Hanson family there, meeting with people times 10 here, time with Keller family there (for a week), more meetings with cherished friends, dinners and lunches and desserts to give us weigh gain, talking at First Free here, vacation there, sister Sam's beautiful wedding in Duluth last weekend, and a flurry of packing this week...
...to bring us to 2 days left.
*Whew and sigh*
And it's been GREAT. We love our friends and family and the time spent together. But work remains now...
Today we packed two bags of supplies and two bags of our clothes. We've yet to return the Kellers' once-pristine family room to its former glory... but that's next :)
Amanda's parents head up to the cities for a joint Keller-Hanson spaghetti dinner... (Mike's favorite)... then a batch of goodbyes all around and off to the airport Thursday morning.
As far as we know, we will fly into Beijing, take a cab from the airport to some hotel to meet up with other teachers (and our new teammates!!!) for an as-yet-unspecified-amount of time in said Beijing hotel. Then on to Lanzhou!
(Don't you just love the specificity of China plans?! :) )
We've loved seeing your faces this summer - from a visit to FindLaw to lots of visits to friends' homes and First Free. We truly missed you all...
Especially since Amanda feels a little lonely with all her pale skin in China... nice to have others in the same stratosphere as her! :) (Okay, not THAT close, but closer than our Chinese friends!)
Hey, we love you guys.
M+A
P.S. When and if possible, we'll post as soon as we can to let you know we arrived safely in BJ and LZ.
